Motion GraphicsResonance, a Santiago Calatrava retrospective exhibition at MoMA, celebrates the dialogue between Calatrava’s biomorphic architecture, the sky above, and the water below. While his works are immediately notable for their grand scale, the exhibition and visual identity zoom in on the delicate, rippling forms they’re composed of.

The exhibition identity is built on rhythmic moiré waves that reflect the fluid visual movement of natural objects, shifting and flowing along the architectural curves. The moiré pattern distorts any text it’s overlaid on to varying degrees, depending on the pattern frequency, typographic scale, and viewing distance. 

This scalable graphic system plays with legibility and invites audiences to step back or lean in to clearly perceive information, evoking the multi-dimensional nature of Calatrava’s monumental architecture.
